Overview

Our client, a popular news website, wanted a news app and website that could revolutionize their daily operations. Along came GODELM with an idea to create an app and website that could be updated simultaneously and be kept in regular check by every in accordance with their current roles. GODELM ensured the scalability that the client was looking for, by creating a platform that was not only functional for today but could virtually support a large number of people working for our client while providing the latest news for the whole world.

Solutions

As we discussed our client’s vision, we made sure that they were aware of what they wanted and how it was to be done. To be more concrete we asked them what they wanted to be changed in their existing website. We were aware that the app would need to be created from scratch and the website would be needed to be revamped. Furthermore, GODELM also recognized the need for the backend functionality to be seamless, understandable, and operable by the layman, as there were many reporters in the organization who were not very well-versed in technology. Thus, we applied RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) to their backend system. We created different roles for everyone based on their designations, with reporters being able to upload content, editors being able to alter it, and finally, publishers being able to publish it for the end-user. Through this function, every backend user had the needed access and the admin could easily monitor the system as well as create more identities and roles as needed.

Wireframing

Our client agreed with our proposed solutions telling us to go ahead and provide a generic flow to showcase how the News app and website would function. By giving them an idea of the functions and general layout of their platforms, the client got a good idea of how it would look to them as well as how it may seem to the end-user. The reason behind providing the wireframe was to be clear about how we planned to go with the design of the project as well as set a pathway to creating the best high-fidelity prototype.

Once everything was set and the plan was ready, our development team started working on the project, creating an app and website that worked on the same backend, ensuring everything was updated simultaneously. GODELM Inc. was focused on following every set of rules and logic to guarantee a seamless interface. Our concept to apply RBAC was accurately integrated along with the set rules, allowing everyone at the client-side to understand the prototype to the dot. With everything aligned, we showcased the high-fidelity prototype and we met with enthusiastic applaud by the team at our client side.

Curious Highlights

Ensuring a seamless platform was quite a challenge as the app and website’s backend was to be controlled by a layman and not a tech expert. This meant that the layout needed to be as easy as possible, allowing new ids to be generated and roles assigned in a few minutes or less. The final product not only made this possible but also included many more features. A few of the best features we ensured are listed below.

01 An app available for everyone.

Seeing that news is almost a necessity, the app is available on both Play Store and Appstore.

02 Live COVID Updates

The app and website have a specific section dedicated for Live updates about the pandemic.

03 News in almost every format

The News App and website have the functionality to have both videos and written content, along with images.

04 Access Control

Only the Master Admin can change the basic settings and user rights for the backend.

05 Content can be uploaded but not posted without publisher role

Reporters can upload content from their side, while publishers and editors can proofread and verify it before posting it on the frontend.

06 Frontend for everyone, Backend for Android

Android provides much better customization for the user and so the app’s backend could be more easily accessed by Android users.
